AL-QUR’AN DAN KONSEP CHILDFREE: STUDI PENAFSIRAN AYAT-AYAT TENTANG KELUARGA DAN ANAK

Abstract

The childfree issue refers to the choice of individuals or couples not to have children, influenced by psychological, economic, and environmental factors. This phenomenon has developed alongside increasing awareness of human rights and the significant responsibilities involved in childrearing. This study aims to examine the childfree issue from the perspective of the Qur’an. The method employed is descriptive-analytical, by examining primary sources in the form of Qur’anic verses and classical Qur’anic commentaries, as well as secondary sources such as academic literature and relevant supporting data. The findings indicate that the Qur’an does not explicitly discuss childfree, but it emphasizes children as part of human nature (fitrah), as blessings and trusts from Allah, as well as trials that require parental responsibility. The Qur’an also portrays children as a source of comfort and as successors of moral and virtuous values. Thus, although childfree can be understood as a contemporary social phenomenon, the Qur’anic perspective places greater emphasis on readiness, responsibility, and the quality of parenting within family life.
