KONSEP KHALÎFATULLÂH FIL ARDH SEBAGAI LANDASAN SUSTAINABLE DEVELOPMENT PERSPEKTIF AL-QUR'AN

Abstract

The current environmental crisis is a fundamental problem that cannot be separated from the human perspective toward nature. This study aims to examine the concept of Khalîfatullâh fil Ardh in the Qur'anic perspective and analyze its relevance as a foundation for sustainable development in the context of modern life. This research is a library research using the maudhu'i (thematic) tafsir method as the main approach in analyzing Qur'anic verses related to the research theme. The results show that the concept of Khalîfatullâh fil Ardh encompasses three main dimensions spiritual, ecological, and moral-social affirming that humans are managers and guardians of the earth, not exploiters. This concept has strong relevance to the principles of modern sustainable development, including intergenerational sustainability, balance, justice, and moral responsibility. Furthermore, the Qur'anic foundation is considered more comprehensive as it contains a binding spiritual dimension and a more holistic scope compared to the secular Western concept of sustainable development. Thus, the Qur'an has essentially provided a philosophical and spiritual foundation for sustainable natural management long before the world recognized the term sustainable development.
